The Heart of Who We Are at Schmitt Prosthodontics
Hello, friends and colleagues. My name is Dr. Scott Schmitt, and I wanted to say a few words today about the office in general, the experience, and what we do and why we do it. I've spoken in past videos and mentioned before how I feel that prosthodontics is both an art and a science. It's about fitting crowns and making dentures, and we go through procedures to get that done.
At the same time, it's a very artistic process. It's a very creative process. I truly value both whenever we are trying to make teeth or help people, and those things say a lot about what we do and how we do it. We certainly try to practice at a very high level when it comes to the art and the science of prosthodontics.
Why We Do What We Do
That being said, it doesn't say a whole lot about why we do what we do. I think the why is probably the thing that comes first in my mind and really drives what I do every day. We wrote an office purpose. This is a document we come up with together as a team. Every January, we revisit it, rework it, and make sure that it's alive, something we believe in, and something we all embrace.
I want to read our purpose to you:
With heartfelt compassion and unwavering generosity, we devote ourselves to changing lives by sharing love through honest communication and thoughtful, ethical dental care. Our faith in this righteous intention inspires us to serve others and compels us to flourish and prosper.
When I come to work every day and lead our team here at Schmitt Prosthodontics, this is what I’m trying to do. This is what I’m trying to inspire among our team. That why is incredibly important, and I thought it was very important that you understand that as well.
Why I Dress the Way I Do
As a side note, I've been asked in the past why I dress the way I do. When I come to a dental office every day, it's not typical for a dentist to wear a shirt and a tie. Most dentists wear scrubs, and I understand and appreciate there are reasons for that. However, I want to share that the way I dress is a reflection of how I feel inside about what I'm doing, how I'm doing it, and the motivations I have for prosthodontics. I feel the same way when I go to church; it's a reflection of how I feel about my faith in God. It’s an appropriate respect for the importance of the occasion. I dress this way not just for the outward appearance. I dress this way because I want it to reflect the respect I have for what I'm doing and for the person in front of me.
I am very grateful for my profession because it allows me to bring my faith into the office. It allows me to love my neighbor as myself. At the end of the day, if I've done that, regardless of what else has happened, if I've truly done that and I've served someone and helped my neighbor, I've helped someone in need, then it truly allows me to feel like I've served my purpose. I feel like I've fulfilled our purpose and our mission statement, and that's incredibly important.
Whenever you arrive at the office and it appears as though I'm adjusting a denture or fitting a crown, please know that there is a deeper intention behind it. I wish you peace, and God bless.
